Introducing AuthM8: A free, cross-platform 2FA solution tailored to your brand for secure authentication

AuthM8 is an open-source cross-platform app for two-factor authentication (2FA) using TOTP (Time-based One-Time Password). Compatible with both Android and iOS, it’s designed to provide a customizable, secure authentication tool.

TOTP (Time-based One-Time Password) is a two-factor authentication (2FA) technique that generates temporary, unique passwords based on the current time and a shared secret key. In AuthM8, each TOTP code is configured with a validity set on the server side. This adaptability ensures that the server and the user’s device remain in sync, greatly reducing the risk of unauthorized access while adapting to different security requirements.

Why use 2FA?

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a crucial layer of security by requiring two forms of verification before granting access. Passwords alone can be vulnerable to phishing, data breaches, or brute-force attacks. By implementing 2FA with TOTP, such as in AuthM8, users confirm their identity through a unique, time-sensitive code generated on their device. This means that even if a password is compromised, unauthorized access is far less likely, as the attacker would need physical access to the second authentication factor—significantly enhancing overall account protection.

Key Features of AuthM8

  1. User-Friendly Setup: The app is designed for straightforward implementation. Companies can fork the repository from GitHub and follow simple instructions to configure their version of the app, requiring only basic modifications to a few configuration files.
  2. Cross-Platform Support: The app works on both Android and iOS devices, ensuring broad accessibility for users.
  3. Open-Source Foundation: The AuthM8 is built on an open-source platform, allowing for community contributions and feedback. This open approach encourages collaboration and continuous improvement.
  4. Security and Flexibility: For users with more advanced technical needs, the app allows for deeper customization, including modifications to CSS, HTML, and app behavior.
  5. Streamlined Deployment: The app is designed to simplify the process of releasing it on platforms such as Google Play. Pre-filled templates for data security forms and other requirements may be made available to reduce the complexity of the submission process.
  6. Customizability: The app allows for the easy modification of branding elements: logos and color schemes. This enables organizations to maintain a consistent brand identity while providing a secure authentication experience.

In summary, AuthM8 is a secure, customizable, and cross-platform solution for two-factor authentication using TOTP, providing enhanced protection against unauthorized access. With a straightforward setup, broad compatibility across devices, and advanced security options, it’s an excellent choice for organizations looking to boost digital security while maintaining brand consistency. As a free, open-source app, AuthM8 is readily available for download on GitHub (https://github.com/inero-software/AuthM8), allowing businesses to deploy and tailor it to their needs effortlessly.
